The iPad is the unbeaten tablet in the
market at the moment, but as rivals have proven, there is a huge interest in
smaller and cheaper gadgets as well.
In a few weeks, we might get to see the
so-called iPad mini. It will be Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL)’s effort to fill the
gap in its iOS device array. While early leaks on iPad mini have not been
rampant as they were for the iPhone, we do have a fair idea of what may be
like.
Date of sale
Apple has already let out to the press that
it will declare the iPad mini in October. As per AllThingsD, Apple will declare
the tablet on 23rd October. Apple usually releases products in a span ranging
from a week to 10 days after the announcement. Hence, we can expect a late
October or early November release date. According to the reports of The Wall
Street Journal, iPad Mini is already in full production.
Cost
Things get a little tricky here. There are
speculations that the iPad mini could cost as less as $199, which is the same
price as the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7. Others think a $299 price is probable.
However, one should not expect that the iPad mini could cost more than the iPad
2.
Size
By all accounts, the iPad mini will have a
display of 7.85 inches. That is slightly larger than 7-inch display on Google’s
Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD, still smaller than 9.7 inch display on the
full-sized iPad mini.
Kind of screen
To keeps the costs down, there have been
rumors that Apple would not include high-resolution Retina display that is used
on iPads and iPhones. This means that the resolution will be the same as iPhone
3GS. It is probable that Apple will use the same type of screen for iPad mini
as it had used on 3GS model.
